Central NY autism walk attracts hundreds of participants (photos)

Jamesville, N.Y. — The drizzly weather didn’t stop more than 800 people from gathering at Jamesville Beach Park early Saturday morning to raise awareness and support for individuals with autism in Central New York.

The annual “One Step at a Time” Autism Acceptance Walk, put on by the Autism Society of Central New York, has been taking place for over 20 years. Dressed in raincoats and huddling under umbrellas, participants trekked the roughly one-mile path around Jamesville Beach Park, coming together to promote awareness, understanding and acceptance of autism and related disorders. The event has grown in size, reach, and donations every year.

Many participants created personal donation pages, showing up in customized shirts and holding massive posters in support of family and friends with autism. Others set up booths and stands, selling locally made products like pens and t-shirts and providing resources about autism in Central New York…
