15 years later: April 27, 2011 marks one of the deadliest single days for U.S. tornadoes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Today falls on one of the deadliest days in U.S. tornado history, when a massive, sustained outbreak struck in 2011.

Between April 25 and April 28, more than 360 tornadoes touched down across 21 states, including in Tennessee. On April 27 alone, 319 people died as a result of the storms, the most in a single day since 1925.
