Met ireann Cancels Thunderstorm Warning Ahead of Cooler Bank Holiday Weekend

Additional Coverage:

Met Éireann has withdrawn the Status Yellow rain warning for Cork and Waterford initially issued for the Bank Holiday weekend, as updated forecasts indicate less severe weather than previously expected. The warning, which was set to run from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, has been canceled due to a projected decrease in rainfall intensity.

According to the national weather service, ongoing monitoring and the latest model data revealed that heavy rain is unlikely, prompting the decision to lift the alert. Today, southern and western parts of the country will experience periods of rain, occasionally heavy, gradually moving northeast. In contrast, northern and eastern regions should remain mostly dry with bright spells.

Temperatures are expected to peak between 14°C and 19°C, slightly cooler in the southwest, accompanied by moderate easterly winds easing as the day progresses. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for a mix of clouds and sunny breaks, with scattered showers developing-heavier and more frequent in western areas during the afternoon.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, a combination of rain and showers is anticipated, with temperatures cooler than recent weeks, ranging from 14°C to 19°C. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with widespread, sometimes heavy showers and a chance of thunder, feeling cooler with highs between 12°C and 15°C. Sunday is expected to remain largely cloudy, featuring widespread showers and occasional heavy downpours, along with a risk of thunder, and similar temperature highs in the low to mid-teens.

Light to moderate winds from varying directions will accompany these conditions throughout the weekend. Residents are advised to stay informed as weather patterns continue to evolve.
