Woman charged with embezzling thousands from Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A west Charlotte woman faces charges after allegedly embezzling more than $13,000 from Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte, court records show.

Leah Stewart accepted a position as Disaster Case Management Supervisor with the charity on Dec. 10, 2024, where she oversaw intake processes for disaster survivors and identified their housing, financial and other critical needs, according to records. The organization issued Stewart a business credit card to facilitate those responsibilities.

Between April 16 and June 30, 2025, Stewart made unauthorized purchases for personal use, including repairs to her Mercedes, hotel stays, food, car insurance and mobile phone bills, according to investigators…
