Roadwork project to impact travel in area of Niskayuna

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Town of Niskayuna says travel will be impacted in an area of town this week as a construction project begins. Grand Boulevard, also known as County Route 23, will see improvements from Keyes Avenue to Van Antwerp Road, a stretch of about 2,600 feet.

County Route 23 is a two-lane divided collector roadway that connects local streets to arterial roads in the area. Schenectady County said the proposed pavement restoration will restore roadway functionality, address existing surface deficiencies and extend the service life of the corridor.

The project includes a 2-inch mill and inlay treatment of the roadway surface to maintain the highway in a structurally sound condition. New pavement markings will also be installed to clearly define travel lanes, parking areas, pedestrian facilities and shared bicycle accommodations.

Each travel lane will be 13 feet wide and designated as a shared-use lane for drivers and bicyclists. Bicycle shared lane markings, also known as “sharrows,” and accompanying bicycle signage will be indicated. A 9-foot-wide on-street parking lane will be adjacent to the driving lane.

Another key part of the project focuses on pedestrian safety and accessibility improvements. Upgraded ADA-compliant curb ramps, high-visibility crosswalks and enhanced accommodations for bicycle travel will be installed…
