Wilmington City Council pushes back on proposed $16.8M affordable housing plan

A major part of Mayor John Carney’s affordable housing plan is being met with a skeptical eye by some members of Wilmington City Council.

Monday’s Real Estate & Housing annual budget meeting turned into a hours-long discussion over Carney’s proposed $16.8 million transfer from the Tax Stabilization Fund for affordable housing.

According to Land Use and Housing Director Bob Weir, the $16.8 million is expected to net around 200-300 affordable units, although the breakdown of whether those would be owned, rentals, and who they would specifically be affordable for have not been determined…
