Arson suspect set as many as 15 fires in DeKalb County around half mile radius, officials say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A suspect arrested yesterday in connection with a series of fires in DeKalb County that were believed to have been set intentionally is facing third-degree arson charges, officials announced Tuesday.

And according to DeKalb Interim Fire Chief Melvin K. Carter, Wasim Majeed set as many as 15 fires that crews worked through the morning hours to respond to on Monday.

The fires were set around areas near the campuses of Georgia State – Perimeter College and Georgia Piedmont Technical College, including Memorial College Avenue, North Indian Creek Drive and by James R. Hallford Stadium.
