Man shoots himself in the face during traffic stop, Troup Co. deputies say

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — A man is now in a Columbus-area hospital after shooting himself in the jaw, Troup County officials reported Monday morning.

According to Troup County Lieutenant Stewart Smith, on April 28, at 8:05 a.m., a deputy with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Hamilton Road and Old Chipley Road.

Smith says that before the deputy exited his vehicle, the driver discharged a firearm, striking himself in the jaw. His vehicle then rolled to a stop at the side of the road…
