INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A 25-year-old man is facing charges after authorities say he submitted a series of false threats aimed at local high schools, setting off a full-scale safety response.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that Antonio Mojica was arrested and charged with making a written or electronic threat to kill or cause bodily harm. Investigators say the threats were sent through the FortifyFL app and referenced Sebastian River High School and Vero Beach High School, with Palm Bay also mentioned.
As soon as the tips came in, law enforcement moved quickly. Sheriff’s officials say their Investigations and School Resource Teams, along with the Real Time Crime Center and school administrators, worked together to track down the source and assess the situation. Their investigation ultimately confirmed the threats were unfounded.
Even so, the sheriff’s office stressed that every school threat is taken seriously. Officials say responding to false threats still requires significant time and resources — all of which are pulled away from legitimate public safety concerns…
