Artwork to honor victims of gun violence in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Grand Rapids is committing $20,000 to a new art installation with the goal of honoring and memorializing victims of gun violence.

Last summer, after the city received some requests to rename city streets after victims of violence, it proposed a communitywide memorial to honor everyone.

“We had a very robust conversation on the dais some time ago, when there were a couple of requests to rename streets after victims of gun violence,” Grand Rapids City Manager Mark Washington said during the city’s Public Safety Committee meeting Tuesday.
