LMHA changes to make thousands of Section 8 voucher households to pay more

Louisville, KY (WAVE) – Louisville residents receiving Section 8 housing vouchers will soon pay more for utilities and possibly more for rent. Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) Executive Director Elizabeth Strojan said the alternative would be people losing their homes.

“Right now, our projected deficit could exceed $10 million,” Strojan said. “That’s roughly one month of payments to landlords from LMHA. So, every month we’re putting out between $10 and $11 million in section 8 payments to landlords. So, if we weren’t making these changes, we’d have to terminate a significant number of vouchers.”

3300 households, according to LMHA, will soon pay more for utilities so that none of the current 11 thousand voucher holders would lose their vouchers…
