Rensselaer County restaurant to close after 10 years

POESTENKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A military-themed restaurant in Poestenkill will be closing its doors after a decade in business. Mess Hall, located on State Route 66, said its final day will be Thursday.

Owner and Navy vet Shawn Hardy and his wife, Noelle, opened the restaurant in May 2016 as a way to say thank you to veterans. The eatery utilized a cafeteria-style serving method, reminiscent of how meals are dished out in the military.

“What started as a dream grew into something far more meaningful that we ever imagined,” the Hardy family said in their closure announcement on Facebook.

Mess Hall’s menu included many casual American eats like fried chicken, pulled pork, burgers and various cold and hot sandwiches. The restaurant also served specials like General Tso’s chicken, beef street corn tacos and shrimp scampi.

Now, Mess Hall said its decision to close its doors was a difficult one. The Hardy family has not disclosed why they chose to close, but said it has come with mixed emotions…
