New Albany law authorizes city to seize vehicles involved in drag racing

An Albany local law signed Wednesday by Mayor Dorcey Applyrs allows the city to investigate and penalize unlawful speed contests, or drag racing.

Applyrs signed Local Law E at the city firehouse on Washington Avenue Extension with city residents, elected officials, police officers and community leaders.

The law prohibits organizing or participating in a street race or street takeover, as well as spectators from attending such races. It also authorizes authorities to seize and forfeit vehicles used in the events…
