(NEXSTAR) – “We found the needle in the haystack, and it was right here in Sacramento,” said former District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert as she announced the cold-case arrest of the Golden State Killer in 2018.
Schubert was just 12 years old when Joseph James DeAngelo Jr. began his decades-long string of rapes and murders.
“I came from a family of seven kids,” Schubert said. “We lived about a mile to two miles from kind of the epicenter of these crimes, so it was very, very much on everybody’s mind as a child, as a teenager … anybody that lived in Sacramento during that time period had their own personal stories.”
