Albany Firefighters Museum eyes new home as part of the downtown revitalization plans

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Albany’s downtown revitalization plan is moving into a key phase as developers have now submitted revised proposals this week to align with The Downtown Albany Strategy. News10 does not have an exact tally on the number of proposals hoping to secure a share of state funding, but we know there are many.

The Capitalize Albany Corporation says many developers are trying to get their hands on some of those 200 million dollars available for redevelopment projects Downtown.  While there is a wide array of plans – ranging from housing to retail – News10’s Tyanna Xavier had the chance to catch up with a more unique project aimed at preserving history.

The Albany Firefighters Museum is hoping to secure a new space at 358 Broadway, the old trailways bus station as part of the broader redevelopment effort. The current location is at 384 Broadway just a couple doors down.

“The challenge is the size of the equipment that we’re dealing with and the current apparatus that we have in the inventory, the two pieces that we do have, we just couldn’t get them in here,” said Bill Tobler, Albany Firefighters Museum Director and a retired firefighter of nearly 40 years…
