MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Mount Pleasant is moving ahead with a slate of traffic and pedestrian safety projects that town leaders say have been on the docket for several years, with construction on some improvements possibly starting within six to 10 months.
The projects are funded by the $15.78 million the town received from the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant in 2023. The town has until September 2030 to finalize project designs, break ground and complete construction.
All of the projects stem from the town’s 2023 Safety Action Plan, which aims to reduce crashes and accidents that result in serious injuries. Proposed improvements include new landscaped medians on Long Point Road, additional traffic lights along Highway 17, new shared-use paths on Rifle Range Road and Mathis Ferry Road, and new flashing pedestrian crossing signs…
