ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – A new report from No Kid Hungry, a nonprofit organization, shows many moms are making tough sacrifices just to keep food on the table, from taking on debt to skipping meals themselves.“Right now, moms are doing everything they can, but the reality is it’s getting harder. Nearly half of moms say they worry about being able to consistently provide healthy meals for their kids,” said Amy Biestek, senior program manager for No Kid Hungry Virginia.
Biestek says the issue isn’t effort, it’s because costs are too high and paychecks aren’t stretching far enough. That pressure is forcing some parents into impossible decisions.
“We’re seeing moms skip meals, take on debt or work extra hours just to make sure their kids can eat,” said Biestek.
