May events kick off with Black Market, Viking Fest and more coming

May has arrived, with sunny skies and Mosquito Fleet history, Viking traditions and the annual salute to the military in Bremerton this month. Here’s a look at how to spend weekends with friends and family at community events this month, as well as some June events to get summer going in the coming months, on the Kitsap Peninsula.

  • Bremerton Black Market, May 2: An open-air market celebration of black-led businesses and community will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, in Quincy Square. People can visit black-led businesses and food vendors, and enjoy double-dutch performances and live entertainment.
  • Viking Fest, May 15 – May 17: The annual celebration tied to Poulsbo’s rich Scandinavian history will again take place on the third weekend of May. There will be live performances throughout the day. Entertainment is performed in the Austin-Kvelstad Pavilion in the waterfront park. The Viking Fest parade started at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and a street dance will take place on Front Street Saturday…
