Two TN National Guard soldiers honored for heroic actions in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two Tennessee National Guard soldiers assigned to the Memphis Safe Task Force are being recognized for heroic actions that helped save lives in separate incidents across Memphis.

Sgt. Talvin Jennings, with the 253rd Military Police Company, was off duty when he encountered a Memphis resident having a medical emergency. Jennings immediately stepped in to provide first aid, assisting the individual until emergency responders arrived on scene.

In a separate incident, Spc. Kaitlynn Pope, with the 269th Military Police Company, was off duty with fellow soldiers when they witnessed a crash along Interstate 40 near Wolfchase Mall. The group quickly pulled over and called 911.

Pope, who is trained as a medic, provided aid to one of the victims by applying pressure to a severe head wound, helping prevent further blood loss until paramedics arrived.

Both soldiers were awarded the Tennessee Adjutant General’s Ribbon of Valor for their actions.
