Man arrested after allegedly stealing gun from Montgomery police

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A man was arrested Thursday after allegedly stealing a gun from the Montgomery Police Department, according to court documents.

Vonshawn Devon Perry, 23, was charged with second-degree receiving stolen property and certain persons prohibited from possessing a gun.

Officers assigned to the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit were patrolling the Calmar Drive-Gas Light Curve area when they saw Perry walking north toward a corner store.

After he left the store, officers noticed a gun in his waistband as he walked south on the same sidewalk. Officers approached Perry and asked for his name and date of birth to confirm whether he could legally possess a gun. Officers took the gun for safety…
