An assault over a backpack preceded the March shooting death of a Fayetteville man outside a Blue Street apartment building, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case.
Tony Itmus Chance, 46, was shot multiple times shortly before 11 p.m. March 9 near a stairwell at the Mt Sinai Homes complex. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Jordan Chancellor Whipple, 33, surrendered April 24 on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder.
According to the affidavit, Whipple went to the apartment of a woman he knows and discovered a backpack belonging to her boyfriend. The affidavit describes what followed as a domestic assault, though it does not specify the nature of Whipple’s relationship with the woman.
