Stockton police shoot, kill ax-wielding man during confrontation, authorities say

STOCKTON, Calif. — A man in his 20s died Monday after Stockton police shot him when he allegedly raised an ax toward officers during a confrontation, police said.

The shooting happened after a series of events that began around 7 a.m. in the 2000 block of Nevada Street, where officers responded to a report of a suspicious person armed with an ax, Stockton police spokesperson Officer Omer Edah said.

According to police, the man had been smashing through the front door of a home, but he left the area before officers arrived…
