School Crossing Guard Fatally Struck by Alleged Drunk Driver During Afternoon Pick-Up

A Louisiana community is mourning the death of a beloved crossing guard after she was fatally struck by an alleged drunk driver during the afternoon pick-up period after school, police said.

Katy Wells, who worked as a crossing guard in Livingston Parish for 40 years, was fatally struck by a vehicle around 3:30 p.m. local time on April 30 while performing her duties in front of Gray’s Creek Elementary in Denham Springs, according to a Facebook post by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Wells was 74, according to her obituary. She was a grandmother of one and a mother of five. She was married to her husband, Glen P. Wells, for 53 years before his death in 2022…
