Easton Royal knew what he just achieved. The Brother Martin sprinter crossed the finish line several strides ahead of the next-closest runner when he took a quick glance at the scoreboard.
What he saw: “Easton Royal, Brother Martin, 10.17” — the fastest 100-meter time in LHSAA state track and field meet history, breaking Fair Park alum Rod Richardson’s all-classes state record (10.2) that had stood since 1980.
