BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Thousands of animals get a second chance each year through the Idaho Humane Society, but the organization says the work depends on community support — especially as it responds to a large-scale rescue involving more than 100 dogs from a single property.
The Idaho Humane Society is taking part in Idaho Gives from May 4-7, describing it as an opportunity for the community to support animals “who have nowhere else to turn.” To start the campaign, the organization said every gift will be matched through a $25,000 match from Walter Meyer’s legacy gift, doubling donations at the outset. The Idaho Humane Society said additional matches from community members are also planned throughout the week.
The fundraising push comes as the shelter deals with what it described as a growing number of poodles and poodle mixes entering its care. The Idaho Humane Society said the dogs are coming from one property outside Ada County, where a former commercial puppy breeder did not take steps to prevent the dogs from breeding among themselves or with neighboring dogs.
