ALBANY — The redevelopment of the historic Selfridge & Langford Building in Albany has been underway since March.
It will transform the vacant four-story building at 97 Central Ave. in Albany into 49 affordable apartments with ground-floor commercial space, according to a breakdown provided by Damien Pinto-Martin, vice president of MLB Development, the developer of the project. Construction is estimated to conclude in early 2027, Pinto-Martin said.
“Affordable housing is (a) broad term that elicits different feelings depending on who you are talking with, but in 2026, we are in uncharted territory. Safe, reliable housing is becoming more and more expensive and increasingly difficult for our middle class to maintain at the typical 30% of your gross income,” Pinto-Martin wrote in a statement to the Times Union. “This project represents private, public and government investments where we are all doing what we can to meet the cost challenges head-on. While it has not been easy, it is rewarding and we appreciate all the work from all of our partners to make it happen.”…
