New Orleans cab drivers struggling with higher gas prices, want city approval for fuel surcharges

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Strait of Hormuz is more than 7,000 miles from Louisiana. But the standoff between the U.S. and Iran over the narrow waterway continues to impact global oil prices and the cost of gasoline.

According to AAA, the cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has increased by 50 percent since the Iran war began. Those soaring costs have cab drivers ready to ask New Orleans City Hall for help.

“First of all, our expenses goes up. It’s costing us probably $15-$20, $22 more to fill up a gas (tank) right now,” said Kirtan Parmar, general manager of United Cabs in New Orleans…
