Shelby County Man Charged in $2.5M COVID Relief Fraud Scheme

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — A Shelby County man was charged in a multi-million-dollar COVID-19 relief fraud case, federal officials announced.

According to a 13-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court, Stanley Mark Hill, 61, of Helena, is charged with wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Acting U.S. Attorney Catherine L. Crosby announced the charges.

Prosecutors allege that between May 2020 and May 2021, Hill applied for seven fraudulent loans through the Small Business Administration, including programs such as the Paycheck Protection Program, Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program, and Restaurant Revitalization Fund.
