JPD chief calls for billing reform, saying she spends too much time reviewing invoices

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney says she’s spending too much time going through invoices.

On Monday, the chief spoke with the Jackson City Council about issues with the city’s vendor portal, which allows vendors to upload invoices without providing details on what those invoices are for. Brackney says she has spent hours going through invoices for her department, which range from monthly cell phone statements to car-part purchases for police cruiser repairs.

“I don’t believe that is the best use of my time … clicking through invoice after invoice,” she said. “I have $22,000-a-month AT&T bills, and I’m looking through to see every single phone number on there.”…
