AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) – As several data centers have been proposed across Hays County in recent years, local leaders, environmental advocates and industry officials are debating what the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure could mean for Central Texas.
Right off Francis Harris Lane between San Marcos and New Braunfels, construction is underway on one of the newest data center developments near the Hays County line.
Supporters say the facilities are critical to the modern economy, while critics worry about long-term impacts on water resources.
