Cool Start, Stormy Finish As San Antonio Braces For Gusts And Downpours

San Antonio rolled out of bed to mostly cloudy skies and a cool 66°F this morning, with a northeast breeze already making itself known. By the afternoon, temperatures should climb to around 75°F, with that breeze turning into a solid wind from the northeast at 10 to 15 mph and gusts that could reach 25 mph during the drive home. Any rain today should stay on the lighter side and spotty, with new totals generally staying under one tenth of an inch.

Friday Into Saturday: Rain And Stronger Storms

Rain and thunderstorms become a much bigger player on Friday, especially along the I‑35 corridor, where scattered showers may grow heavier and more widespread. According to the National Weather Service, there is a slight risk for excessive rainfall in parts of the area from Friday into early Saturday. That could mean brief but locally heavy downpours and isolated flash flooding if storms line up over the same neighborhoods. Forecasters are putting the chance of precipitation near 40% on Friday, rising to roughly 60% Friday night into Saturday.

Flooding, Where It Matters

Not every puddle is a problem, but certain spots will be more vulnerable if those heavier storms show up. Urban streets, low‑lying underpasses and hill‑country drainages are the first places to watch if heavy rain falls in a short amount of time. The San Antonio River Authority notes that the region sits in what is known as Flash Flood Alley and urges residents to steer clear of driving through standing water, keep an eye on local road closures and check river gauges during heavier rain. If you have outdoor plans from Friday night into Saturday, it is worth having a quick backup plan ready in case storms flare up.
