- FBI boss Kash Patel ‘orders polygraphs of more than two dozen members of his team’ after leaks (themirror.com)
FBI Director Kash Patel has reportedly ordered polygraph tests for more than two dozen current and former members of his security detail and other staff, according to sources close to the bureau. This move is seen as part of Patel’s efforts to identify potential leaks within the agency amid growing scrutiny of his leadership.
Insiders familiar with the situation revealed that Patel has distanced himself from several senior FBI officials following critical media coverage. The polygraph examinations reportedly target individuals on his security team as well as members of the IT staff.
Further reports suggest that Patel has been avoiding meetings with key operational leaders, raising concerns within the FBI about his ability to effectively oversee ongoing investigations. However, FBI spokesperson Ben Williamson denied claims that Patel is isolating himself, stating that the director continues to hold regular meetings with top officials, including deputy and assistant directors, as well as intelligence briefing teams.
The polygraph orders come in the wake of a recent exposé by The Atlantic, which accused Patel of excessive drinking and erratic behavior. Patel has strongly denied these allegations and filed a $250 million lawsuit against the publication. Sources indicate that Patel’s heightened suspicion has led him to launch an internal probe into the media outlet, despite some agents’ reluctance to pursue the investigation due to lack of clear justification.
According to reports, this is not the first time Patel has used polygraph testing as a tool within the agency. Earlier this year, dozens of agents underwent similar tests following reports that Patel had requested a firearm.
Adding to Patel’s challenges are reports that former President Donald Trump has grown frustrated with the FBI director. According to Politico’s White House Bureau Chief Dasha Burns, Patel could be next on the president’s list for dismissal, citing concerns over Patel’s public image and the controversies surrounding his tenure.
One source close to the administration told Burns, “It’s only a matter of time,” suggesting that Patel’s position may be increasingly tenuous as questions about his leadership continue to mount.
