Officials investigate street opening in Allentown on the same street where a January sinkhole displaced families

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Crews responded Thursday evening after a report of a street opening on 15th Street — the same roadway where a sinkhole previously displaced two families who still have not returned home.

According to the Lehigh County Authority, the call came in at 6:39 p.m. Crews arrived on scene by 7 p.m. and confirmed that the opening had not caused any leaks. Teams remained on site through the evening to monitor the situation and ensure no additional issues developed.

The street opening appears to be right in front of the two houses that still sit vacant from the massive sinkhole from January this year.

According to authorities, the matter is now being handed over to the City of Allentown for further evaluation and any necessary follow‑up.
