The 28th Annual Eagle Festival will return to Mason Neck State Park on May 9, offering a full day of wildlife programs, outdoor activities and environmental education. The free festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and highlights the region’s natural history and long-standing conservation efforts.
The event features live animal demonstrations, hands-on learning stations and outdoor recreation clinics aimed at inspiring stewardship of Northern Virginia’s unique ecosystems. The festival also honors the decades of advocacy that helped preserve the Mason Neck Peninsula, including the work of Elizabeth Hartwell — known as “The Eagle Lady” — whose efforts led to the creation of the Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge.
“Saving the bald eagle is what kicked off conservation here, but so many other plants and animals have thrived because of all the protected land on the peninsula,” said Mason Neck State Park Manager Lance Elzie. “Join us in continuing their legacy. We hope you come out to the park, have fun, get involved and help protect Mason Neck for generations to come.”…
