Feds will seek death penalty in deadly Schenectady arson that killed four

ALBANY — Federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty against Edward A. Leon Sr., a Montgomery County man accused of setting a 2013 fire in Schenectady that killed a 32-year-old father and three young children.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard D. Bellis told a federal judge that acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche “has authorized and directed the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York to seek the death penalty against” Leon.

“The government intends to seek a superseding indictment in accordance with the acting attorney general’s directive and to file a corresponding notice of intent,” Bellis said…
