Life is full of inspiration and surprises. I have to say, my most recent surprise is that I have been fortunate enough to have finished two careers so far in this lifetime. The inspiration is that I want to continue to the next one. As I introduce myself, I want to say my two careers each had unique qualities. The first built me into a leader among some of the best in large organizational management with proven success in motivating diverse teams. The second allowed me to serve with a community in a different, more personal capacity. Both careers provided me with qualifications that would be extremely beneficial as Sandoval County sheriff.
Few people know at an early age what they want to do in life. I knew I wanted to be a soldier. The U.S. Army positions held by me for much of my career in the military were leadership positions. I retired as command sergeant major. I led Albuquerque Company, Tempe Company, Phoenix Battalion and Southern California Battalion, all top military recruitment facilities, throughout my positions. Each and every organization I was given obtained extraordinary success through development, mentorship, execution of discipline, building and reaching goals, and assessment in every aspect of the moving parts of the group. I was truly satisfied with the work I achieved in my time with the military.
The second career I pursued was another inspiration from my younger self. Serving in law enforcement brought me many new skill sets. Becoming proficient in all local and state law, statutes, policies and procedures allowed me to excel as a deputy. Not only did I serve as a deputy in Santa Fe County on patrol but also worked in a capacity to recruit and build new hires for the department. As with any smaller department, I was utilized to fill multiple needs. Providing annual training for staff along with implementation of progressive, classes for current situational events was part of my daily tasks. Working with the captain and administrative staff, I reviewed and assisted in updating and implementing policies and procedures. One of the most enjoyable tasks was being involved in public interaction events. Special Olympics, torch runs, and outreach programs were arranged and facilitated through myself and others. Another satisfying finish to my second career…
