TVA: Lake Levels Lower In Region As Drought Conditions Persist

As summer approaches and locals prepare to head to nearby lakes, such as Douglas and Cherokee, for water recreation, the Tennessee Valley Authority is cautioning that lake levels will likely be lower this year than in years past due to an ongoing drought in the region.

Ben Heath, an operations support manager for TVA’s River Forecast Center, told Radio Greeneville News in a recent interview that east Tennessee has seen only about 70% of its normal rainfall, which had decreased the amount of usual runoff into lakes significantly.
