WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Since 2008, the Kansas Hispanic Education & Development Foundation has been on the front line of helping high school students get ready for whatever step they take after graduation.
Many of the foundation’s alums are first-generation college graduates. KHEDF Executive Director Pablo Cruz said one major hurdle for these prospective students is that their parents have never been through the process of applying for colleges and scholarships.
That’s where the foundation steps up and provides a one-stop shop for whatever these students and their families need to know about taking the leap after high school.

“When I had seen it online, I was like, ‘Oh, you know, this might be an opportunity for me to apply and give it a shot,’” alum Michele Valadez said. “It feels really great just to know that I have someone that’s going to hold my hand as I’m going into that first big step, which is college, and then still having that guidance while I’m in school and up to post-grad too.”…
