Giant air bubbles surface at Empire State Plaza reflecting pools

ALBANY – More than a dozen large air pockets have appeared beneath one of two reflecting pools at Empire State Plaza in recent weeks.

The bulging gray shapes, which look like massive russet potatoes peeking above the surface of the larger pool, are the result of trapped air that formed under the liner when the pools were filled for the spring season, said Joe Brill, a spokesman for the state Office of General Services.

Brill said the state is working with a company to address the problem and they hope the repairs will be completed this month…
