With Buffalo city budget costs, city employees still working without new contract

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Members of the Buffalo Common Council are now carefully scrutinizing Mayor Sean Ryan’s proposed budget with that property tax increase and extra costs.

But as Mayor Ryan acknowledged bargaining for new union contracts for city workers could eventually add costs even beyond the Mayor’s projected $100 million dollar plus budget deficit. Ryan specifically stated: “The cost of the union contracts isn’t even in the $100 million dollar budget gap.”

It could represent a challenge for Ryan in years as he has maintained a strong connection to labor unions during his previous political career in Albany…
