Salt pile, King Fuels site in Troy could be transformed under new deal

TROY — If plans go through to sell 26 acres of riverfront land for redevelopment in South Troy, a notorious mound of road salt could be lifted away earlier than expected.

According to a nonbinding agreement with Troy Local Development Corporation, prospective buyer Troy Materials Group, a firm run by construction industry titan Don Fane, has until Sept. 30, 2027, to close on a sale.

Seamus Donnelly, executive director of the LDC and Troy’s deputy mayor, anticipates the deadline could accelerate a 2024 agreement to relocate the Adams Street salt pile by 2029…
