A man from Illinois has been extradited to Craven County after investigators say he posed as a deputy in a scam targeting local residents.
According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, deputies began receiving reports on March 17, 2026, about a caller claiming to be a Craven County deputy. The caller told victims they had outstanding warrants and needed to pay fines to avoid arrest.
An investigation by the sheriff’s office Criminal Patrol Bureau and Criminal Investigation Bureau identified the suspect as 34-year-old Jakeen Maurice Thomas of Calumet City, Illinois…
