JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Jackson Police Department (JPD) is evaluating how its blue light camera system is being used and whether it is effectively helping reduce crime across the city.
Jackson Police Chief Dr. RaShall Brackney said the department has access to about 1,100 cameras, but most of the cameras are currently used after crimes occur rather than in real-time prevention efforts.
“Either those that were put up in connection with our RTCC or blue lights in which community members have purchased cameras that have given us access to them,” Brackney said. “To this point, the camera systems that are being used are being used primarily for investigation.”
