MADISON, Wis. — Firefighters responded to a north side home late Monday night after homeowners woke up to the sound of their carbon monoxide alarm and their dog barking.
Firefighters arrived at the home on Lake View Avenue at midnight and observed that work was being done on the home’s chimney, which had been covered by a tarp. The homeowner informed firefighters that their boiler vents through the chimney.
Engine 10 proceeded into the home with a handheld air monitor, which showed elevated levels of carbon monoxide. Engine 10 then walked to the basement, where carbon monoxide levels measured 200 parts per million and then escalated to 1,000 parts per million in the boiler room…
