Widow of late firefighter chronicles grief following ‘Black Sunday’ in new book

It’s been 21 years since the FDNY faced one of the darkest days in the department’s history: Jan. 23, 2005 is known across the city as “Black Sunday.”

Three firefighters were killed in the line of duty in two separate incidents, including 37-year-old Lieutenant John Bellew, who left his wife and four small children behind when he was forced to jump from a fourth story window while battling a fire.

Now, Bellew’s widow is sharing her family’s journey of grief, resilience and healing in her new book, “After John Jumped: The True Story of a Family’s Rise from the Ashes.”…
