Work stoppage ends at ammunition plant

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) says its members have voted to ratify a new collective bargaining agreement that has prompted them to resume work at an Olin Corp. ammunition plant in Independence, Missouri.

The contract covers some 1,300 workers at the plant, which makes small arms ammunition under the Winchester brand. The sizable ammunition factory generates recyclable metals and in turn is an end market for potentially recycled-content lead, copper and zinc used in bullets and brass or steel used in casings.

“After weeks on the picket line, IAM Union Local 778 members have with Olin Corp.’s Winchester division, officially ending their strike that began on April 4,” states the Maryland-based IAM on its website…
