Las Vegas fifth graders win $9,000 in Shark Tank-style competition

LAS VEGAS (MORE) — A group of fifth graders from Tom Williams Elementary School won $9,000 from UNLV after taking first place in the Swimming with the Big Fish competition, a Shark Tank-style entrepreneurship contest.

Team Vigor Lock — Everly Esquerra Montoya, Gustavo Jimenez, Isabella Cardenas and Yuliana Rosa — created a medication bottle with a camera connected to an app that allows parents to monitor whether their children have taken their medication.

“The problem that we’re trying to solve is that if parents are taking night shifts and they’re not able to see if their child took their medication or not,” said one team member.

The team said they came up with the concept after realizing parents working night shifts cannot monitor their children’s medication routines…
