Johnson County redistricting forces two supervisors into same primary race

JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – A state-mandated redistricting plan is forcing two sitting Johnson County supervisors into the same Democratic primary race.

The newly created District 4, which covers much of Iowa City, now places current supervisors Rod Sullivan and V Fixmer-Oraiz in the same Democratic primary race. The two supervisors have often aligned politically but have split on several local topics, especially surrounding law enforcement and the county’s push to build a new jail facility.
