Urban Alchemy’s history of lawsuits

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Since 2020, at least nine lawsuits have been filed against Portland’s largest homeless services provider, most in Northern California, where the nonprofit is headquartered.

Most of the lawsuits were filed before the City of Portland signed a $50 million contract with the nonprofit, which the city expanded to $90 million last year. The contract expires in 2028 and still has roughly $35 million remaining in drawdown funds.

A KATU investigation recently unearthed upward of 80 complaints filed with Portland’s Ombudsman, mostly by residents and some by employees. The complaints include allegations ranging from sexual relationships between staff and residents to sexual harassment by staff, as well as drug use, drug dealing and theft by staff…
