BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham is preparing for the summer break with programs aimed at keeping young people engaged and safe during the 10 weeks students are out of school.
Mayor Randall Woodfin said the city is working to ensure students have opportunities and do not engage in behavior that could lead to trouble.
Woodfin said the city’s recreation centers will be extended to youth this summer as safe havens and for swimming. City pools, recreation centers and libraries will have programs throughout the entire city for families and youth enrichment, he said.
The mayor is encouraging teenagers to apply to become lifeguards. Libraries will have reading programs and engagement programs across the city, he said…
